Dr. Epstein is a nationally recognized expert in vision correction procedures for freedom from glasses and contact lenses. He has a number of notable achievements:
- First surgeon in the Midwest and third American to perform LASIK (1991)
- First surgeon in the Midwest to perform radial keratotomy (1983)
- First surgeon in the Midwest to perform Multifocal LASIK, a procedure to reduce or eliminate the dependence on bifocals and reading glasses.
- Pioneer in the prevention of blindness due to extreme myopia.
- One of only a few American eye surgeons who can perform a procedure called scleral reinforcement.
- Issued a number of patents including one granted September of 2003 that increases the safety and accuracy of ablative laser treatments.
Dr. Epstein earned a bachelor and master's degree in electrical engineering and worked at Bell Laboratories prior to earning his medical degree.
